The Picos de Europa is a beautiful mountain range in Northern Spain but after three days exploring the scenic and challenging roads we headed South through Guardo and on to Carrión de Los Condes. A picturesque and historic town on our way East.
There are great views to see when you get a chance to pull over, which isnt often on the narrow mountain roads.
Carrión, has history back to Roman times but is named for the guy that battered the Moors out of town at about the end of the 8th century. By the looks of things the locals haven’t stopped building churches since. The Camino walkers stop here and there is a choice of places to stay and lots of churches and monasteries to visit while here.
This monastery is now a four star hotel and the picture doesn’t express how huge it is.
We had the menu del dia in a little bar which we choose because it was full of locals. Three courses of fantasy food with wine for €11 euro. How bad!
